It was sporty, attractive, well-built, and smooth-running compared to the model t, which it replaced in the 1928 model year. Thousands of people were eager to see for themselves that "henry's made a lady out of lizzie," and they stormed ford showrooms when the model a debuted on december 2, 1927. In less than two weeks there were 400,000 orders, and henry ford could not keep up with the demand for his latest "gift" to an increasingly mobile nation. Despite the onset of the depression, model a production remained strong at 1,261,053 cars in 1930 but fell to 626,579 cars in 1931, the last year that the model a was produced. The 1929 ford model a coupe 2 door offered for sale here features a rumble seat, luggage rack, dual spare tires with covers and a chrome radiator guard. The body remains all henry ford steel. It is covered in brown with black fenders. The paint shows some wear but is in good condition overall. The black vinyl top remains in good condition as well. This car has been used in parades over the years and enjoyed by several owners in michigan. The model a market remains very solid and this a is good candidate for an addition to any collection.

The model a was a huge success for ford. The model a was a big change from the model t with all the varying model choices and amenities. The styling from edsel ford proved to be a huge success and sales nearly hit 5 million in the production years of 1927-1931. The chrome shines well and is in excellent shape. There is a rear mounted spare with a leather tire carrier cover. The interior was also redone at the time of the restoration, including seats, headliner, door panels and new rubber floor mats. There is a curtain that covers up the back window. The material on the top appears to be new as well. It appears that this was an intense “nut and bolt” restoration. All the nuts, bolts and hardware, all appear to be new. We took this for a road test and it ran well and held the road nice and tight. The engine was rebuilt and the clutch is new along with a throw out bearing and pressure plate. The front spindles were replaced along with the distributor and it has fresh manifolds.

On may 25th, 1927, ford announced the shutdown of the plant and production of the model t and began retooling the entire factory to begin its new and improved version, the model a. They completed this process in almost 6 months and had cars pumping out quickly which was only possible due to edsel secretly marshaling the design and sketch team to begin working on the new model prior to henry ever even approving such a change. With a black exterior and brown lebaron bonney interior, this car shows well and is a head turner. The chrome remains in excellent condition. It rides on 19 inch black wire wheels with nearly new tires mounted on it. It has etched glass wind visors and presents well. The model a still retains it’s factory autolite heater pipe off of the manifold. It also has aftermarket turn signals, dual cowl lamps. This car runs and drives as it should.

The sporty model a wears a shiny coat of black paint with a tan pinstripe that matches the tan wire wheels. The paint presents well. The wire wheels are mounted to firestone 21 inch white wall tires that really add to the look of the car. The chrome bumpers, headlights, cluster bezel, grill shroud and grill protector all shine in the sun and present well. The car remains in its 6 volt system. There are aftermarket turn signals added, the “ooga” horn works as well. The door panels and seat are covered in two tone grey material and present very well, with little to no sign of wear and tear. The model a has won its way into the hearts of millions of people. This is a very clean example of the car that henry ford produced so many years ago. The car has a rear mounted spare tire with a tire cover and it also has a luggage rack. The 201 cubic inch 4 cylinder fires right up and runs as it should. It is matted to a 3 speed manual transmission. The car goes down the road nicely. This clean, solid little car is ready for its next owner to run it up and down the countryside.

It also features a rear view mirror with a built in clock. Under the hood looks nice, the engine was painted as are the surrounding areas. It appears that this was an intense “nut and bolt” restoration. All the nuts, bolts and hardware, even the castle nuts, all appear to be new. There are even the leather wraps that protect the front springs on the underside. We took this for a road test and it ran well and held the road nice and tight. The speedometer worked as well as the dash light. This car remains as a 6 volt system. There was obviously great attention paid to detail during the restoration and this car shows very well.
