Everyone knows the story on the ford name and the importance of the first vehicles that ford produced to the mass public. The ford model a was the second huge success for the ford motor company, after its predecessor, the model t. First produced on october 20, 1927, but not sold until december 2, it replaced the venerable model t, which had been produced for 18 years. Spending the past 25 plus years in north carolina, this remarkable car would be a great addition to anyones collection or first swing at a pre-war automobile. Vehicle was converted over to a 12volt system and brand new front headlights with hi and low beams were installed along with duolamps in the rear with functioning running lights and brake lights. Turn signals could easily be added at any time. Vehicle also features the rear luggage holder along with rear spare tire/wheel with cover. Alternator was also upgraded along with new battery in the past year. Radiator guard completes the iconic front end look. Newer tires were added about a year ago when the wheels were removed and painted along with the brake system redone by local mechanic. The interior of this car really is impressive with all new leather seats, new period correct carpeting, door panels and unique headliner. Previous customer had over $4k invested in the interior alone. All features are working properly and windows go down and up, dash light functions properly and it fires up quickly without any hesitation. It was sporty, attractive, well-built, and smooth-running compared to the model t, which it replaced in the 1928 model year. Thousands of people were eager to see for themselves that henry's made a lady out of lizzie, and they stormed ford showrooms when the model a debuted on december 2, 1927. In less than two weeks there were 400,000 orders, and henry ford could not keep up with the demand for his latest gift to an increasingly mobile nation. Despite the onset of the depression, model a production remained strong at 1,261,053 cars in 1930 but fell to 626,579 cars in 1931, the last year that the model a was produced. The car rides on 1930-31 wheels, which had the larger hubcaps. The body of the car is steel and the front and rear fenders are fiberglass. The car has a black vinyl top, rumble seat, rear mounted spare, messko thermometer. The chrome radiator shell is in good condition. The paint shows some sign of wear but still remains a solid car. The 1929 ford model a coupe 2 door offered for sale here features a rumble seat, luggage rack, dual spare tires with covers and a chrome radiator guard. The body remains all henry ford steel. It is covered in brown with black fenders. The paint shows some wear but is in good condition overall. The black vinyl top remains in good condition as well. This car has been used in parades over the years and enjoyed by several owners in michigan. The model a market remains very solid and this a is good candidate for an addition to any collection.

Henry ford spent most his first years fighting off the idea of changing the model t which produced and sold over 15 million models before his son, edsel, finally convinced him that some new features and comforts were necessary. On may 25th, 1927, ford announced the shutdown of the plant and production of the model a and began retooling the entire factory to begin its new and improved version, the model a. They completed this process in almost 6 months and had cars pumping out quickly which was only possible due to edsel secretly marshaling the design and sketch team to begin working on the new model prior to henry ever even approving such a change. Gr auto gallery is pleased to present this 1930 ford model a for consideration. The current owner purchased this vehicle about 15 years back and has kept excellent care of it during his ownership. He believes the restoration was completed about 16 years ago. We believe this is the original motor to the car, but has been rebuilt it runs great and turns right over for us. The vehicle has been kept to original standards with no upgrades or built parts.

It had become apparent to most in the company that it was time to begin a new model, but henry ford was resistant. With “luxury” features coming out such as electric starters in most of general motors products, newer exterior designs fit to the era they were entering, ford was forced to compete and began their model-a design. At first, henry did not want to worry about looks or features but to spend their energy on the mechanical aspects which had been the primary reason for success on their model t. Although many improvements with the engine power and overall stability were improved, it proved to be short of what was necessary, a new cosmetic appeal. For this henry called upon his son, edsel, who showed how successful it could be with his design. After years of compliments on its curb appeal, henry started to take credit for it himself although his son was clearly more hands on with this project. The era of mass production had officially passed and the era of “flexible mass production” had begun and regardless of who was more responsible for this model, ford in general showed once again how well they could adapt and stay on top. It is covered in a stunning shade of ruby red and fenders are plum as are the body linings. The car rides on 21 inch wire wheels that are painted in a dark shade of plum red. White wall tires accent the look of the car very well. The interior is finished in ruby red cloth. The black convertible top shows well. The roadster features the famous “rumble seat” allowing room for passengers. The chrome and bright work show well. The 4 cylinder engine runs smoothly and is mated to its 3 speed manual transmission. This car goes up and down the road as it should.

The exterior is in a very well kept and the paint shines up and has a nice glossy finish, as well as the chrome bumpers including the split rear. The exterior features that came originally on the a are still in place including the rear luggage rack, a very nice black vinyl top, and the always fun rumble seat that came with the roadster. The engine and surrounding area look great and are all painted up. The inside of the ford is equally as nice, with a very handsome leather that does not seem to have any rips, tears, or cracks in the leather. The era correct gauges are still in the dash and look great. The model a rides on goodyear whitewall tires. It also has a rear mounted spare and a chrome radiator protector. This model runs and drives as it should and is a blast to cruise around in.
