The frame is a bull neck that has been restored with all stock brackets and fittings. The engine is used and the lower end/rods both seem firm and to have the same amount of movement in them

Up for sale is a very nice clean example of the first year (post war) harley davidson knucklehead. This model was sold as a "plain jane' due to the war effort having used up all the chrome to line gun barrels for the war effort. New motorcycles were not generally available to the public during the war years, as hd had signed a contract with the government to concentrate all sales towards military needs. When the bikes became available to the public again, they were only available in grey, no chrome, and then later that year, in black (no chrome). Dealers did the best they could to dress them up with a few "off the shelf" accessory items, such as chrome spirals and fender tips, and stainless fender trim if they had any in stock. I have owned this bike for the last 21 years, the restoration was completed 18 years ago. It is a good running bike and for the first 6 years was my daily runner. This was a full nut and bolt restoration, 100% rebuilt everything, and it starts easily and runs smooth. The bike does have some aftermarket parts on it, the fenders are aftermarket, as is the headlight, bars, rearstand, toolbox. The gas tanks are original. It has the correct bull neck frame. This bike has been upgraded to a panhead oil pump, because they work better. The speedometer is a reproduction. Much of the hardware is quality colony reproduction, made to original specs, and either parkerized or cadmium plated, as required. The cylinder heads are from flathead power, they are made of ductile iron and are 10x stronger than the originals which were prone to breakage at the rocker tower. The bags are a quality osprey set of reproductions, and would be correct for 1947. I chose these because the correct 46 bags looked about as impressive as a set of brown paper grocery bags. This bike also comes with the correct buddy seat, a basic black leather thin double seat. This bike is sold as is, where is, and all that. I believe the original warranty expired around 1947. Detailed photographs can be taken per request. I do not know if the belly numbers match. I never even knew it was a "thing" to be concerned with. This bike has the skid plate in place, and i cant see them. It also has some aftermarket parts on it, as stated earlier, i built it to ride it. I have enjoyed it many years now, but am downsizing to just 1 or 2 bikes.

Matts other theory is that it may have been some sort of factory racer but with no evidence to support either, its only speculation. Clean and clear xxxx harley davidson title.
