The car had a fair amount of success but not enough to save the ailing studebaker corp. When the factory closed its doors in 1963, the avanti carried on its name plate under avanti motor corporation. The avanti ii became the successor of the original and with the help of general motors, ford and a few independent manufactures, the avanti name plate made a run under some different configurations until 2006. All sporty, all unique and all built to the original statement by sherwood egbert. Gr auto gallery is pleased to offer this two owner avanti ii for consideration. The car as shipped from the factory on april 4, 1980, is finished in contessa pewter metallic paint, over storm clouds genuine leather full seats and interior trim. The interior also features silver brushed aluminum accents and cornet shalimar taupe shag carpet. Options per the shipper invoice include: 350 cid engine, automatic transmission, power steering, air-conditioning, sunband in windshield, tinted side windows, blaupunkt am/fm stereo, rear electric antenna, internal control mirrors, door and fender protectors, rear window deicer, moon roof, electric windows, electric door locks, right side fixed mirror, wire wheel covers, cruise control, electric trunk release, internal control mirror, rear seat and under dash speakers, with dealer installed undercoat and trunk carpet. Avanti's continue to have a cult following and are well respected in the collector car world. Makes every effort to represent each vehicle accurately and with integrity. The Avanti II is a car that has a lot of heritage to it and a past that reflects the Studebaker lineup along with the newer Ford Mustang drivetrain and powertrain. The company was bought and sold several times until being put to rest in 2006 with its last headquarters in Cancun Mexico. Offered here is a vehicle for someone that wants to be unique but also likes to tinker and play with a car that could have some serious upside. Very few of these remain on the roads and the interior of this one is very nice with lots of recent upgrades and replacement parts. The paint has its given patina and the brakes will need some work. The car is all original except for the wood inlay on the instrument panel and console which was replaced from the fawn color. Transmission and engine were rebuilt and both are in fine condition. Engine runs very strong and starts quickly. Rear speaker was added to the back shelf and dual master cylinder was installed for safety (have original single master cylinder along with other parts). The car was repainted it original white color.
